It is important to install the update because it brings three zero-day patches to fix vulnerabilities that may have been exploited. iOS 16.7 brings “important bug fixes and security updates and is recommended for all users,” according to Apple.
September 22 saw Apple issue a security update for iOS 16. On October 10 Apple issued iOS 16.7.1 which plugged two critical security holes, including one that “may have been actively exploited.” Apple’s now launched iOS 17, so there won’t be new features for iOS 16, but you can expect security updates to continue to arrive when they are necessary. Apple’s iOS 16 has been available to install on iPhones since September 12, 2022, but while tons of new features arrived in September, and even more in the months that followed.
